Provider of the Quarter – LBHS Cheerleaders

Provider of the Quarter – Liberty-Benton High School Cheerleaders

The Liberty-Benton High School cheer squad was amazing with the Special Olympics pep squad both prior to and during the Celebrity Basketball Game. Never have we seen a group of young women so willing to jump in and teach, while accepting and including the pep squad throughout. LB ensured the Special Olympics squad was included in candid photos, and taught them simple cheers so they could feel more a part of the game. LB cheerleaders demonstrated the true spirit of acceptance and inclusion – which can be very rare in many teenagers.

Congratulations to this wonderful group on being chosen the quarterly Community Partner award winner!

Basic Manufacturing Class – Job Shadowing

One of the unique features of Liberty-Benton High School’s Basic Manufacturing Class Career Network Program is that job shadowing opportunities can be tailored to meet each individual student’s interest. This allows our students to explore various career options and helps them make informed decisions about career pathways. One of our students, Chris Dole, had the opportunity to spend time with Daniel Hutchinson, Asst V.P. Fleet Engineering, of the American Steamship Company (ASC) based in Toledo, Ohio. Mr. Hutchinson shared his passion and knowledge about the shipping industry with Chris. He learned about the important role that lake freighters play in transporting raw materials such as coal, limestone, and iron ore across the Great Lakes as well as how public policy and environmental awareness have impacted the shipping industry. Chris was invited to board the American Mariner to see how these vessels and their mechanicals are maintained in the off season. Additionally, he met key representatives of H Hansen Industries, the maintenance company partnering with ASC to keep their vessels in top shape, and tour their facilities. Chris has been accepted to the Great Lakes Maritime Academy’s Engineer Officer program in Traverse City, Michigan and will begin classes this fall. This experience gave Chris the opportunity to network with people involved in his chosen career field and to see some of the possible jobs available to him after graduation.
