STRIDES Program Recycling Project – Lids to Benches

Dear Liberty-Benton Community,

Our Liberty-Benton High School STRIDES program is conducting a plastic recycling project called, “Lids to Benches.” Please help us to collect the following plastic lids and caps that will be recycled into benches for our school. You may drop off the lids and caps anytime in the high school office or send them our way with a high school student or staff member. All of our students and staff are participating through their STRIDES groups. This is a win-win service project as it doesn’t cost anything, helps our planet through recycling, and in the end, also provides a nice bench for the school. Thank you for helping us by saving your lids and caps!

These are the lids and caps we need to collect and recycle:

drink bottle caps (water, pop, energy drinks, etc)
flip-top caps
spout caps
detergent caps
milk jug lids
deodorant caps
cool whip lids
toothpaste tube caps
medicine bottle lids
spray paint caps
coffee can lids
peanut butter jar lids
sour cream lids
cottage cheese lids
butter tub lids
prescription bottles w/o labels
ice cream bucket lids under 8”
ketchup and mustard lids
caps with recycle numbers of (2) (4) or (5)

Nick Spieker

Senior Nick Spieker is a member of National Honor Society, band (marching, concert, jazz, and pep bands), FFA, the Environthon, and a captain of the varsity wrestling team. He enjoys scuba diving, karate, hunting, fishing, shooting, rappelling, and is a Boy Scout Eagle Scout. Nick’s favorite subject is math, and his personal goal is to go to college and have a career in the military. Nick is the son of Craig and Jill Spieker.

 

 

Owen Rath
Owen Rath

Junior Owen Rath enjoys writing, movies, and sports, and his favorite classes are English and yearbook. He is active in soccer, basketball, track, Habitudes, yearbook, and National Honor Society. He is looking forward to his senior year for sports, and his personal goal is to have a book published. Owen is the son of David and Tracy Rath.

Kristen Streacker

Sophomore Kristen Streacker enjoys playing sports with her family and friends and spending time with her nieces. She is a member of Z-Club and Spanish Club, and her favorite subjects are science and English. She is looking forward to getting her driver’s license, and her personal goal is to continue to do well in school. Kristen is the daughter of Karl and Lori Streacker.

 

 

 

Jon Cade
Jon Cade

Freshman Jon Cade is active in cross country, basketball, student council, and Z-Club, and he enjoys karate and reading. Jon’s favorite subject is math, and he is looking forward to the fun side of high school, like in sports. His personal goal is to be the best person he can be. Jon is the son of Doug and Ruth Cade.

LB High School to Host Veteran’s Day Assembly

Attention LB Families,

Liberty-Benton High School will host a Veteran’s Day assembly on Friday, November 11, at 1:00 p.m., in the high school auditorium.  It is an opportunity for our students to thank those who have served in the U.S. Military.

We invite all military veterans and active duty personnel to join us as honored guests for this special assembly.

Sixth Grade Run, Fun & Fitness Club

This was an inaugural season for the  Run, Fun & Fitness Club.  Kicking off on September 8th and then meeting every Thursday through October 20th from 3-4pm. The purpose of the club was to encourage fitness, goal setting and leadership, all while introducing kids to the sport of running. Sixteen students regularly attended Run Club sessions where improvements were made, goals set and obtained, and encouraging others while being a positive leader was paramount.

Mrs. Heidi Irwin was very proud of all of the hard work and dedication these students showed.  Great Job!!

LBMS Boys CC Team Places Third at State

On Sunday, October 23, the boys junior high cross country team traveled to Hilliard Bradley High School to participate in the state meet.  The team brought home the third place trophy in the silver division.  Leading the eagles were Elliott Veenstra (4th place overall), Gabe Hardy-Fowler (5th place overall), Ty Knestrick (new PR), Brayden Todd, Chase Collert, Austin Kern and Damien Bisson.   Also running in the state meet were Lincoln Ebert, Xavier Ibarra, Cooper Norman and Jason Alford.
Congratulations to all of the eagle runners and for a fantastic season!!!

Kanable to Retire at Year-end; Superintendent Search Begins

The Board of Education has received notice from Jim Kanable of his intent to retire from the district effective December 31, 2016.  The item will be placed on the agenda for Board consideration at the November 21, 2016 regular board meeting.  Transition plans are in the process of being developed to ensure leadership continuity for the District while the Board undertakes the process of searching for and hiring a new superintendent.    K-12 Business Consulting, a highly regarded professional search firm specializing in searches for high quality school administrators, has been contracted by the Board to assist with the search for a new superintendent.  Their service will be customized around a collaboratively developed search profile that includes the input from the staff and community through direct engagement.  Below is an invitation for you to participate.

Dear Liberty-Benton Community Members,

Selecting the person to serve as our next superintendent is a most important task for the board of education.  We would like to solicit your help early in this process to identify the values, skills, and experience the Board will be looking for in our new superintendent.    Your input is being sought because you are interested in our school district and in the education of our youth.

To provide your input, the Board is inviting you or your representatives to meet with our search consultants at one of the times designated below.  Please feel free to attend any of the meetings if the time assigned to your group is inconvenient.  The sessions are designed to last about one hour.

Included below is a link to the Leadership Profile Assessment form which we would like you to complete.  If you cannot attend a meeting, you may still complete the Search Profile Questionnaire before November 11, 2016.

Ecology Field Trip to BRWP

On Friday, 23 students took an Ecology field trip to the Blanchard River.  This was a joint effort with the Blanchard River Watershed Partnership (BRWP) in order to collect macro invertebrate data and other water data to ultimately judge the level of water pollution.  Students collected data that will be used as citizen science to help data collection efforts in our area.

Thanks to Phil Martin from BRWP or leading the classroom training and data collection today.

7th Grade English Project: Sentence Structure

Students in 7th grade English class started off the year reviewing sentence structures. In order to learn a different sentence structure, some brave volunteers offered to dress up as cheerleaders and invent a chant for remembering the new structure.


8th Grade Visits Cooper Tire’s Manufacturing Experience

Liberty-Benton 8th Grade Students attended Cooper Tire’s Manufacturing Experience on Friday, October 7. The day was filled with a variety of hands-on activities that were centered around careers available at Cooper Tire. The students had the opportunity to go to stations where Cooper Tire employees taught them about the tire making process, engineering, and marketing! The Cooper Tire Manufacturing Experience offered LB 8th graders a chance to learn about an important business in our community and spark interest in possible future career pathways.
