Detective Boutwell Teaches LB Eighth Graders About Solving Crimes

Thank you to Detective Boutwell, from the Hancock County Sheriff’s Department, for coming into our classroom and speaking with Liberty-Benton 8th Graders to share about his job as a detective.  Mrs. Heidi Irwin’s eighth grade reading classes are currently in the middle of a unit of study that surrounds the genre of mystery.  During this unit, students are reading and participating in activities that will put them in the role of detectives.  Even though we try to recreate the job of a detective through our skills in reading for detail, deductive reasoning, sequencing, vocabulary and being able to communicate, we don’t have “real” crime scenes and case files that we are working with.  Mr. Boutwell helped bring literature to life and bridge our studies to the “real world” by sharing his experiences. Students also enjoyed trying to “dust” for fingerprints during Detective Boutwell demonstration on latent fingerprinting.

LB Students Attend HAPPY Weekend

Fourteen Liberty-Benton middle school and two high school leadership students attended HAPPY Weekend on November 18-19. The purpose of the Project HAPPY event was to provide an opportunity for approximately 100 junior high school students from area schools to spend a weekend together developing personal awareness of the physical, psychological, legal and social implications of alcohol/drug use and abuse. This experience promotes an alcohol/drug free lifestyle, and helps to inspire school groups to promote prevention within their schools.

LBMS Seventh Graders Study Ancient Greece

The seventh graders studied Ancient Greece/Mythology. To culminate the unit of study, they had a day of Olympics on Friday, November 18, 2016. In the morning, students viewed Disney’s “Hercules” (mythology movie). Students dressed up as a mythological god/goddess/character and marched to “Olympic Fanfare” through the hallways. After lunch, students participated in various Olympic games and attended Closing Ceremony where medals were awarded and the city-state of Corinth was crowned victor!

LBMS Students Support the Salvation Army

The middle school student council sold candy canes at their Peppermint Post Office and used the profits to buy gifts for five children from the Salvation Army Angel Tree.

In addition, students collected cans for the food drive. Congratulations to Mrs. Eirich’s homeroom for bringing in the most items for the middle school Salvation Army canned food drive.

LBHS Students of the Month – November

Andrew Blackburn
Andrew Blackburn

Senior Andrew Blackburn is active in band, FFA, musical pit, pep band, and jazz band, and his favorite class is calculus. He enjoys filmmaking, drone-flying, playing guitar, spending time with close friends, and working. He is looking forward to attending college, and his personal goals are to graduate from college with a bachelor’s degree and get a successful job in the film making industry. Andrew is the son of Rodney and Susan Blackburn.

Junior Ellory Schroeder enjoys shopping, baking, and hanging out with family and friends, and her favorite class is anatomy. She is active in volleyball, football and basketball cheerleading, student council, FCA, Habitudes, Bible study, is a STRIDES leader, and serves as class secretary. She is looking forward to her senior year and the transition to college life, and her personal goal is to graduate from college with a job she is passionate about and enjoys. Ellory is the daughter of Jeff and Brenda Schroeder.

Sophomore Madi Brown is active in marching band, pep band, jazz band, choir, and Fermata the Blue acapella group. She enjoys drawing, and her favorite class is band. She is looking forward to attending the University of Findlay, and her personal goals are to graduate from college and live a successful life. Madi is the daughter of Deanna and Michael Brown.

 

Chloe Kin
Chloe Kin

Freshman Chloe Kin enjoys 4-H, church youth group, and time with family and friends. Her favorite subject is math, and she is active in soccer, student council, basketball, Spanish Club, choir, and plans to try track in the Spring. She is looking forward to enjoying her four years at Liberty-Benton High School and going off to college. Her personal goal is to graduate with a 4.0 grade point average. Chloe is the daughter of C.J. and Jill Kin.

LBHS Staff Member of the Month – November

aamspaughMrs. Ashlee Amspaugh is in her second year of teaching at Liberty-Benton High School, and she came to us from her teaching days at Elmwood. Ashlee earned both her bachelor’s degree and master’s degree in Spanish from The Ohio State University.

Ashlee’s husband, Kyle, is a pediatric dentist in Findlay, and they have three children: Adelyn (7), Eli (5), and Anna (2). Ashlee grew up in Bowling Green, Ohio.

Mrs. Amspaugh’s favorite things about teaching are hearing her students speak in Spanish and apply what they have learned.

She enjoys running, going to Ohio State football games, and traveling.

  • Not sure about driving something big? Schedule a test drive and find out! (Serious inquiries ONLY).  Training is available to become certified.
  • $14.16 / hour (sub rates); $15.31 for full-time
  • Typical hours to sub are 6:20am-8:50am & 2:30pm-4:30pm
  • Trips and mid-day shuttle opportunities
  • Applicants must possess a Class B CDL with an S&P endorsement (or interested in becoming certified).
  • Must have an excellent driving record
  • Drug Screens, criminal background check, and physical must be passed for employment

Sixth Grade Cultural Projects

The sixth graders in Mrs. Slezak’s Social Studies classes completed cultural projects about themselves to culminate our Human and Cultural Geography Unit.  The students had a choice in how they wanted to present their projects, by either creating a mobile, a poster, a coat of arms, or using a digital platform like google slides.  All of the projects turned out awesome!

Coats for Christmas

The Liberty-Benton Middle School HAPPY Club collected coats for the Annual Coats for Christmas Project. Thank you to everyone who donated. What a great amount of items that were given to help keep others in our community warm this winter.

STRIDES Annual Food Drive

The Liberty-Benton High School STRIDES program completed a successful, annual food drive for our local Salvation Army.  The top three STRIDES groups this year were Mr. Quisno’s STRIDES group, Mr. Marzec’s STRIDES group, and Mr. Gerken’s STRIDES group.  The STRIDES leaders from those respective groups are pictured.  In the front, Adrienne Masterlasco and Sydney Brown.  In the back, Emma Grubinski, Ethan Frankart, Paige Peplinski, Clay Lenhart, and Tyler Dillon.  Thank you to all the Liberty-Benton High School students, staff members, and families who donated and the Z-Club members who helped with the sorting and boxing.  Together, we all make a difference!
