Millstream Cosmetology USA Gold Medal Winners

Congratulations are in order for the following Millstream Cosmetology students:

Shelby Barnhisel (VB)
Skylar Rice (LB)
Cassie Kisseberth (LB)

These ladies recently competed at the SkillsUSA State Competition in Columbus in the Human Services Career Pathways Showcase Cosmetology. They worked with Cancer Patient Services in Findlay and had Joanne Reinhart, patient navigator, as their mentor in this project.

They headed up numerous activities as they learned about CPS and how important it is to our community. Some activities included:

  • Wig cleaning;
  • Collecting wigs, scarves, hats, and gloves;
  • Volunteered at the CPS Chili Cook Off;
  • Designed T-shirts and sold them as a fundraiser;
  • Put extensions in hair as a fundraiser;
  • Donated $432.50 from their fundraisers to CPS;
  • Donated salon products to CPS for patients;
  • Created coupons for cancer patients to receive a free spa service from our Reflections school salon;
  • Provided service to cancer patients;
  • Face painted at an event to raise awareness for childhood cancer;
  • Listened to talks from Joanne about CPS as well as talked with two cancer survivors;
  • Interviewed for an article for the newspaper…which was on the family page with two pictures; and
  • Worked with several community leaders and mentors with The Courier, CPS, and Riverside Glass.

This was a year long project.

In addition, the students created a presentation which included a notebook and bulletin board documenting all of their activities and a speech that was presented at state for judging.

The results…GOLD Medals as well as the satisfaction of working together for the good of the community and making a difference.

We are so PROUD of these young ladies. Due to winning GOLD at state, they now have the opportunity to compete at Nationals in Louisville, KY in June. Good luck girls!
