Senior Katie Veenstra is active in volleyball, cheerleading, softball, Habitudes, FCA, student council, and is a STRIDES leader. She enjoys attending the high school Bible study group and Gateway life groups, and her favorite class is anatomy. She is looking forward to going to college and meeting new people. Her personal goal is to become a physician assistant so that one day she can help others in need and save lives. Katie is the daughter of Tyler and Kristy Veenstra.

 

Junior Cameron Schroeder enjoys hanging out with friends and family, swimming, and playing with his dog. His favorite classes are pre-calculus and chemistry, and he is active in basketball, soccer, and Habitudes. He is looking forward to going on vacation with his family, and his personal goal is to get into The Ohio State University. Cameron is the son of Tamara and Gary Schroeder.

 

 

Sophomore Derek Puthoff is active in student council, Spanish Club, and the stage crew for the musical. He enjoys playing video games, and his favorite subjects are math and science. He is looking forward to going to Millstream next year, and his personal goal is to earn as many college credits as he can before graduating. Derek is the son of Andrew and Amy Puthoff.

 

 

Freshman Kelsey Hall enjoys playing club volleyball and helping in the nursery at church. Her favorite subjects are English and Spanish, and she is active in volleyball and choir. She is looking forward to graduating with honors, and her personal goal is to maintain a grade point average of 3.5 or above. Kelsey is the daughter of Jeff and Cassie Hall.

Staff Member of the Month for March

Mr. Jim Snyder is currently in his fourth year as a custodian at Liberty-Benton High School. Mr. Snyder earned his Bachelor of Science degree in physical education and health, graduated from North Baltimore High School, and has lived in Van Buren for the last 34 years.

Jim is married to Sherlyn, and they have a son, Aaron, and a daughter, Kelli. Jim enjoys watching his grandchildren grow up. Mr. Snyder also enjoys working in the school around the students, and his hobbies are fishing and golfing.

Thank you, Mr. Snyder, for all you do!

Liberty-Benton Arts Festival 2018

The Arts Festival will be Monday, May 7, from 5:30pm to 8pm at the Liberty-Benton High School.  The Art Fest will feature student artwork from grades K-12.  There will be music, hands-on art activities and free face painting.  Admission is free.

Senior Hannah Otley is active in volleyball, Fermata the Blue, student council, National Honor Society, and also serves as a STRIDES leader and FCA secretary. Her favorite subject is history, and she is looking forward to attending the University of Findlay to study physical therapy. Her personal goal is to glorify God in all she does. Hannah is the daughter of Bruce and Tricia Otley.

 

 

Junior Evie Stump enjoys baking, running, and shopping, and her favorite subject is history. She is active in cross country, track, student council, and Skills USA. She is looking forward to going to culinary school, and her personal goal is to open her own business. Evie is the daughter of Gene and Jodi Stump.

 

 

Sophomore Maddie Parmelee is looking forward to summer break, and she enjoys spending time with friends. She is active in soccer, basketball, and is a STRIDES leader. Her personal goal is to graduate with a 4.0 grade point average. Maddie is the daughter of Ray and Nikki Parmelee.

 

 

 

Freshman Elliott Veenstra enjoys fishing and spending time with friends. He is active in FCA, baseball, cross country, basketball, and choir, and his favorite subject is geometry. He is looking forward to having a good baseball season, and his personal goals are to always do his best and be humble. Elliott is the son of Tyler and Kristy Veenstra.

Staff Member of the Month for February

Mr. Chad Marzec is in his second year of teaching science at Liberty-Benton High School, and he previously taught for two years at St. John’s Jesuit High School.

Mr. Marzec is originally from Rossford, Ohio, and he earned his Bachelor of Science degree from the United States Military Academy and his Master of Arts degree from the University of Findlay. He resides in Findlay with his wife, Alisa, and their four children: Jack (7), Kate (5), Emily (2), and Andrew (9 months).

Mr. Marzec enjoys seeing growth from hard work in his students, and he enjoys helping students reach their full potential. He is looking forward to running a half marathon in April, and he enjoys spending time with family, fishing, and wrestling.

Liberty-Benton Designated Purple Star District

I am pleased to announce that Liberty-Benton High School has received the Purple Star designation from the Ohio Department of Education. We acknowledge the outstanding commitment that military families make in serving our great nation. We are here to applaud and support them in any way we can throughout the educational process. I would like to recognize Mr. Chad Marzec, a Purple Heart recipient in his own right, as being instrumental in helping Liberty-Benton High School receive this designation.

8th Graders Work with Marathon Petroleum Engineers

On Friday, March 2, ​​engineers from Marathon Petroleum came to L-B to​ present the “Engineering Adventures” program to​ 8th grade science and math students. ​​In the classroom​,​ the Marathon employees taught students how potential and kinetic energy are important to designing pipelines. They also related pipeline design to roller coasters. ​Groups of students worked together to design and build roller coasters with the help of teachers and engineers!

Senior Emma Grubinski is active in basketball, softball, student council, Habitudes, STRIDES, FCA, and National Honor Society, and she is looking forward to graduation. Her favorite classes are anatomy with Mr. McRedmond and yearbook with Mr. LaFontaine. She enjoys going to youth group, walking her dog, listening to music, and going on mission trips. Her personal goals are to graduate from college and later own a business. Emma is the daughter of Kevin and Kendra Grubinski.

 

Junior Andrew Grimm enjoys collecting sports cards, traveling, and visiting baseball stadiums. His favorite subject is history, and he is active in cross country, quiz bowl, baseball, National Honor Society, and is a STRIDES leader. He is looking forward to going to college and finding a job, and his personal goal is to start a business. Andrew is the son of Allen and Amy Grimm.

 

 

Sophomore Luke McDonald is looking forward to summer adventures, and his favorite class is biology. He is active in baseball and basketball, and he enjoys St. Michaels youth ministry Refuge, fishing, and the Marathon Engineering Explorers program. His personal goals are to go to college and obtain a master’s degree in engineering or business administration. Luke is the son of Layne and Kathy McDonald.

 

Freshman Brycen Abbott is active in football, basketball, and track, and he enjoys fishing and working out. His favorite class is America and the World with Mrs. Foltz, and he is looking forward to becoming more independent. His personal goal is to become the best person he can be. Brycen is the son of Becky and Tim Abbott.

Mrs. Ashlee Amspaugh is in her 3rd year of teaching at Liberty-Benton High School, and previously, she taught in Elmwood. Her hometown is Bowling Green, Ohio, and she earned her bachelor of arts degree and master’s degree from The Ohio State University. Go, Bucks!
Ashlee is married to Kyle, a pediatrict dentist in Findlay, and they have 3 children: Adelyn (a 3rd grader at LB), Eli (a 1st grader) and Anna (age 3).
Mrs. Amspaugh enjoys working with her students. She enjoys their enthusiasm and seeing them become more proficient with the Spanish language. She is looking forward to the high school musical, Music Fest at the Nest, and warm weather! She enjoys running and working out, traveling, and going to OSU football games.

LBHS Environmental Science Wins BRWP Competition

Our Environmental Science classes participated in Blanchard River Watershed Partnership’s (BRWP) annual rain barrel decorating competition. The project’s overall goal was to address and draw awareness to nonpoint source pollution and to promote a positive means of community participation. Both barrels submitted by our Environmental Science classes placed in the top two barrels in the Agriculture Theme category. The barrels were featured at the Findlay Village Mall during the Greater Findlay Home Show this past weekend.
